Debra Huse 'lay It Down And Leave It Alone' Set

Debra Huse is an award-winning contemporary American Impressionist. She uses rich color and bold fluid strokes to capture the light and drama in her plein air and studio oil paintings. Debra enjoys painting on location and has painted in many plein air events across the country. Huse and her husband Randy enjoy traveling on their sport fishing boat GROUPER where Debra often paints scenes from the water. Huse currently has a studio in a Newport Beach, CA Boatyard. Debra Huse has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur & Art of the West Magazine. Debra’s work has been featured in over 25 museum exhibitions. Debra is a popular instructor teaching fun and informative workshops to advance painters more quickly.

The Ivory line with it’s long and short flats, have a great feel, not too stiff like hog bristle brushes, and not as soft as a generic synthetic. "They have a great bounce to them!” Debra loves the #2 long flat for drawing in her basic design. Two are included because they are so handy.

Ivory Short Flats

Are to "scrub in the darks", keeping them thinner and loose. The shorter bristles push the paint into the surface.

Ivory Long Flats
Are to lay-in the middle and lighter values with confidence -they hold enough paint for the viewer to enjoy your brush strokes. The longer bristles allow for picking up more paint and “laying it on”. This technique is called “Lay it in and Leave it Alone” in Debra Huse's popular workshops.

Evergreen Egberts and Series 7320. Pure Sable One Stroke
The Evergreen Egberts and Pure Sable Long Flats are wonderful for when you can slow down and start to apply juicy paint on top of your lay-in. The length and softness are a joy to work with and allow laying on thick passages on top of thin with a soft touch. Do not go over these beautiful brushstrokes!

Series 90. Pure Sable Lettering
The Pure Sable Series 90 is what Debra refers to as her “Rigger” brush. It allows the artist to lay details on top of thicker paint when finishing. This brush likes to have the paint right at the end and applied with a soft touch. Twirl the brush when applying paint for limbs and twigs on a tree. It leaves it’s own thick/thin mark! (Debra also uses the rigger for her signature).
